Academics involving students experiencing mental health problems.

Being a student is hard. It's not all about going to school, sit, listen, and then go home. It's more than what you think of, that is just a summarized version of it. If you dig deeply it's like a daily cycle in our lives that is so draining with all of the work to balance your time, to meet the high expectations of the people around you and to feel the pressure of their expectations and many more. With all of that some students may feel the what we called mental health problems that may affect seriously affect them and their performances. The following is the list of mental health problems that they may be experiencing and their causes.

1. Depression- Yes, it's not just some drama of the students when they say they are depress. It is a common and serious mental disorder that negatively affects how you feel, think, act, and perceive the world. Like for example being sad all of the time leading you to isolate yourself and it can also go far by doing some serious things like commiting suicide. Mainly reason for this is that the students may be experiencing academic pressure and also them being overwhelmed.

2. Burnout- It is weekend again and you see your child still laying on the bed doing nothing when it's already 11pm and instead of letting them rest you scold them for being not up early and call them lazy even when they tell you that they're tired, trust me it's true. Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress, causing a person to feel tired even if they didn't do anything yet.

3. Social Isolation- The label of being an "introverted nerd" is given to you because you rarely go out and prefer to stay home to study? A dream child of a perfectionist family. It is the lack of social contact or interaction with the people around you like your family and friends that may also result into feeling lonely. One of the cause is being intensely focus on academics, maybe because you wanted to be the best or you have a parents with high expectations.

4. Low Self-Esteem- Too shy to stand or speak infront of a crowd and soffucated into overthinking, worrying about being judged even if your doing nothing? Low self-esteem refers to a person having an overall poor sense of self-value. It essentially means having a poor opinion and always have negative thoughts about yourself and not building enough self-confidence. Some causes of this is comparing the students with a negative comments about them that can make them doubt their self and their ability.

Mental health problems can cause by many things and academic is one of them. It may not be visible from the others even on the person that experiencing it, some of them might think it's just a normal reaction of their body and emotion because of tiredness in school and lack of sleep but it's more serious than it looks. So instead of pointing out their mistakes we should help them get the support that they need.
